At Iona College, “fight the good fight” and “move the world” are more than just slogans — they are words that the community lives by. That was shown to be true in July 2014, when Iona was one of the first schools to embrace the fundraising phenomenon, ALS’s Ice Bucket Challenge.
The Ice Bucket Challenge was the brainchild of Iona alumnus and ALS advocate Patrick Quinn ’06. Iona again showed their commitment to Quinn and his cause this spring when they honored him with the Blessed Edmund Rice Humanitarian Award for his lifetime achievements and commitment to raising funds and awareness for ALS.
“The way Iona has rallied around my cause is really something special. I truly believe I am able to do that because of the Iona family support,” Quinn said.
Each year, Iona College and its Board of Trustees host a Scholarship Award Gala at which they honor selfless members of the community who have given back in a big way, like Quinn.
The other award presented at the gala was the Legacy Award, which recognizes lifetime accomplishments. This year, it was presented to the Catherine H. McCabe ’71MA & Hugh J. McCabe ’49 Family and Joseph J. DePaolo ’81, President, CEO & Co-Founder, Signature Bank.
The gala also serves as a successful fundraiser for Iona College, providing student scholarships. This year they exceeded their goal by raising $1,500,000 for current and future students.
In preparation for the award ceremony, DePalma Productions was honored to work with this prestigious college from their own local community and helped to tell the stories of those being recognized. We were also on hand at the ceremony to capture all of the important memories. Click here to check out the videos we produced for the gala.
